About

Emma has been leading guided history walks around Lincolnshire for 12+ years. An author, historian and broadcaster she is often called upon for her historic knowledge on local history.

The author of Grimsby Streets, published in 2017 by Pen and Sword Books, Emma’s tours give an insight into the history of a location, its buildings, the meanings behind the street names, and the people that lived there.

Her oratory skill has been shaped from years working in the broadcast media and her passion for local history shines through. She also gives many talks on local history for different organisations, and has taught for WEA Grimsby.

She represented the heritage tourism sector on the Visitor Economy Services and Retail (VESR) group in North East Lincolnshire, a private sector initiative to promote tourism in the region, for five years.

Grim FalFest, the celebratory family event exploring the legend of Grim, was borne out of an idea Emma had to bring to life the town’s history. The event secured lottery funding and ran for two years, and won UK National Outdoor Event award.

She is a non-exec director on Grim Falfest CIC and also is a trustee at Grimsby Minister. She belongs to the Friends of St Helen’s (Barnoldby) where she runs the monthly coffee mornings and organises guest history speakers as part of a fundraising programme of events.

Emma lives in Healing and leads many walks around this historic village. When not walking and researching local history, she works for Associated British Ports (ABP) as Corporate Communications Manager (Humber).
